Major Upcoming Development on The Space Coast as Area Thrives

Posted on: January 16, 2024

From the introduction of renowned national retail and hospitality brands to new aquariums, the Space Coast is red hot with development. The compounding effects of the national migration to Florida as well as the birth of a new space race have created an explosion of development and economic activity in the area. Let’s explore Dave Berman’s coverage of this exciting time on the Space Coast.

A new shopping development is bringing some big chains to the area with its anchor store being the much beloved Whole Foods. Some other tenants will include Home Depot, Miller’s Ale House, Venetian Nail Spa, Another Broken Egg Cafe and more.

“It’s the best-received project in our history,” said Jeff Garrison, development partner of SJC Ventures, whose Atlanta-based company has worked on more than 60 mixed-use, grocery-anchored and multifamily projects throughout the Eastern United States. “It’s a much-needed service at the right time in a market that is exploding. The Space Coast is on fire. It’s a perfect fit.”

Coming along with the wave of commercial development comes a revolution in medical care for the area. The Space Coast will be receiving a new, state-of-the-art hospital to replace the Cape Canaveral Hospital built in 1962.

“The project includes the new 286,000-square-foot hospital; a four-deck parking garage plus surface parking; and central utility plant designed to ensure continuous power functions, even during tropical storms and hurricanes.”

Some local groups are also looking to expand the scope of their mission and services. Those familiar with the area know the Brevard Zoo is a landmark and a fascinating way to spend the day. The same team is now working to bring a 14-acre aquarium to the shores of the Banana River. With a focus on rescue efforts as well as education, the facility will be a delight for creatures of all origins and sizes.

“In addition to the beach-themed entrance complex, planned exhibits include a Manatee Critical Care Center and Habitat, Sea Turtle Care Complex, Shark Flats, Ray Encounter, Alligator Alley, Otter Run and a tarpon feeding experience.”

Another trend that’s been evident on the Space Coast has been the growing scene of high-end dining and entertainment. To complement this, Westin Hotels is poised to bring the biggest and most luxurious hotel the Space Coast has ever seen.

“The six-story Westin will have 502 rooms, conference facilities and other amenities, and would be considered Brevard County’s first “4½-star” upscale resort.”

For those who are just looking for a change in latitude, the late Jimmy Buffett’s Space Coast project is finally coming to life. Work has restarted on the much-anticipated Compass Landing by Margaritaville which will include a hotel, marina and more.

“Plans for the tropical-themed Melbourne Margaritaville include a seven-story hotel facing the Indian River Lagoon, a two-story restaurant building with 400 seats, a 221-slip marina, a 14,000-square-foot lawn with stage for concerts and events, a four-level parking garage and a public boardwalk.”

Luxury condominium rooftop pool deck

Amongst all of this exciting development stands Lumena. The only new construction condominium of the Space Coast, Lumena will bring an unprecedented level of luxury living to Satellite Beach with ocean views, a rooftop pool, and expansive residences ranging from 2,500 to over 5,500 sq. ft. This luxurious residential experience will prove to be the highlight of oceanfront living on the Space Coast for years to come. To learn more, register here for our brochure.
